Goodbye To A Real Hero

Wednesday March 5Th, 2009 1pm was the funeral for Micheal Boyd Alleman who died February 23, 2009 in Balad, Iraq. Who was so bravely serving our country to protect our freedom. By far the saddest thing I have ever experienced in my life so far. The day started out with Tanner going to school and I picked him up at 11:30am right after lunch. I told him I think the procession was coming because main street was being blocked off by police cars. Somehow we managed to get right ahead of it. We pulled over and watched as police escorts and bikers drove down the rode followed by the Mr. Alleman and the family. We had attended the viewing the night before and met Amy Alleman. Micheal's wife. She waved at Tanner and I standing on the side of the road. We got back into the car, went home and got dressed and went to the church 1 hour early. The church filled up quickly with family, friends, loved ones and others just to pay their respect to our Hero. It was a beautiful service. A couple of piano solos and Micheal's mom speaking. Then Amy spoke. She was very inspiring. She has tremendous faith. She mentioned that her and her husband never spoke an ill word to each other. Always love. Such an example and I couldn't help but think of my own marriage. I know I take my husband for granted sometimes. I know I need to be better. I need to cherish the time I have with my husband and children. You never know when something may happen and you never get the chance to make things better. Micheal leaves behind 2 good looking sons. I pray that the Lord will bless them and continue to watch over them. I think about them so much. My prayers are with them. This was 2 firetrucks at the entrance to the cemetery holding up this huge flag.
Nibley's 3200 S. street was lined with hundreds of flags on the day of the service. So touching

Amy and her son Kai receiving their flags.

Tanner's friends made this banner for Mr. Alleman

At Nibley elementary all the 5Th grades lined the street with hands over their hearts standing so quietly. They sent a great message.

I am sorry you had to experience this. Your teacher was a brave man and a hero to me as well as others. You were strong this day and I knew how hard it was for you. Always remember Mr. Alleman and the things he taught you. Be proud of your country, he gave his life protecting our freedom. I will always be grateful to him and others who protect this great land. I love you son.

Utonya, thank you for this beautiful post! Although I didn't know this giant of a man, I still felt the love for him all over the valley! He truly is a hero! My dad & brother are going to Iraq in October! I'm very scared, solemn, and nervous for them! I love these guys and hope and pray that Heavenly Father will protect them! My mom has great faith in this whole process, and says that your faith makes you strong! Thank you again for sharing this story with all of us!
